Can a photographer paint?

Well, let’s try. This project, combining my two photographic fascinations: alternative processes and female nude, has been with me for a long time. It’s been there, in my head almost forever, I have always wanted to do something like this, even before I actually realised what exactly it is and what the series should look like. After all, a little over 30 years ago I took up photography because I couldn’t paint. And so, I started trying to paint with light, composition, grains of silver or pixels. But still, somewhere at the back of my head there was this dream of ‘a real painting’, one done with paints and brushes.

Now I finally have an opportunity to do just that. It will still be photography, but it will be made with paints and brushes on watercolour paper even if the images come from negatives. The project is a fresh thing with only a couple pictures that are ready, but I already know it will be important for me.
