The saltprint, frequently refered to as the talbotype is one of the oldest and, regretably, one of the unappreciated photographic techniques. And yet it is an exceptionally beautiful and versatile process, a process that has countless modifications and was the base for the most important and most popular process of the 19th century; the albumen print.

There is plenty of myths and legends that surround the saltprint, many of them negative and this is why so many people takes the process lightly, with little respect. In actual fact though this process, together with its variations such as the arrowroot paper is a technique of exceptional subtlety, enabling the photographer to create images of exceptional beauty, full of delicacy and powerful expression, endowed with amazing detail. Definitely, it is one of the techniques that are worth learning and using.
